LEARN ABOUT THE LGA APPLICATIONS

Introduction to LGA Applications

Wide range of detectable compounds possible – simple addition of new compounds of interest

Any dissolved gas and compounds with vapor pressure can be detected and monitored. These include, among others, H2, CH4, NH3, N2, O2, H2S, N2O, NO2, EtOH, and light VFAs (e.g., formic acid).

The quantitative analysis ranges from ppm levels to 100% analyte concentration. Once the system is set up, detection of additional compounds can be done without changing the hardware.

Biogas

Real-time monitoring of volatile compounds and gases in the fermentation liquid

1.  A biogas plat produces biomethane using biomass.

2. The analysis instrument is adapted to flanges at the plat.

3. The microchip extracts dissolved gas and volatile species from the biomass fluid

4.  Online data from volatile species is recored in real-time for the operations manager

5. The operations manager can now decide which parameters to use to avoid breakdowns.

6. Online process monitoring allows an increase in the methane production.

Minute-by-minute changes in biomass

Unlike traditional analysis techniques, The Spectro Biogas solution provides real-time insight into the chemistry in the liquid present in the fermentation tank. There is no need to wait for GCMS or LCMS results or the equalization with the reactor overhead space. Changes in the reactor chemistry can be detected in seconds, and immediate actions can be taken to change organic loading or to avoid foaming or acidification that can potentially lead to the shutdown of biomethane production.

Long-term changes and anomalous events in biomass

Data is immediately available and can be integrated into SRO systems

Data from the system can be reached and used through multiple channels: data can be uploaded to a secure database for cloud storage, with access through a standard web browser or an API. The system’s primary data interface is through Fieldbus protocols, which provides easy integration into the customer sites existing industrial control systems (ICS) systems. The LGA comes with support for PROFINET as the default, but it can be ordered with support for other Fieldbus protocols such as PROFIBUS on request. Furthermore, the LGA also has the option for local MODBUS over RS485 communications for local use or testing purposes.

Easy integration and low maintenance

The system is designed to be attached to standard DIN flanges directly on pipes or the bioreactor (DIN 80 or larger). Working pressures up to 4 bars and temperatures up to 80°C (higher application temperature is possible on request) make the system compatible with a variety of processes. Routine maintenance is expected once every two years and can be made in the field, creating high uptime and a continuous data stream.

Wastewater treatment

Real-time monitoring of wastewater treatment for process optimization and GHG emission measurements

1.  A wastewater plant carries out the cleaning process using aeration tanks.

2. The patent-pending microchip technology is designed to couple water and vacuum.

3. The microchip inlet system is used in a newly designed mass spectrometer analysis instrument.

4.  The instrument is coupled to on-site pipes for on-line measurements.

5. Real-time and historic data is recorded showing the levels of dissolved gases and volatile compounds.

6. Online data allows for precis measurement of waste products and energy optimization of the treatment process in the aeration tanks.

Spectro Inlets solution

Unlike traditional analysis techniques, the Spectro Inlets solution provides real-time insight into the chemical contents of the water at different steps throughout the cleaning process. There is no need to wait for GCMS or LCMS results. Changes in chemical contents can be detected under a minute and can be acted upon to optimize the cleaning process and monitor pollutants.

The same system can also be used to monitor effluent gases. No additional training is required to gain insight into the measured compounds.

Biopharma

Real-time monitoring of pharmaceutical and enzyme production

The use of the LGA for biopharma is currently being developed. Interested in a collaboration project? -> Contact us here

The components of the LGA are made of chemically inert materials (stainless steel and glass) and can be sterilized in order not to interfere with production.

Unlike traditional analysis techniques, the Spectro Inlets solution provides real-time insight into the chemical contents of a liquid at different steps throughout the production process. There is no need to wait for GCMS or LCMS results. Changes in chemical contents can be detected in less than a minute and can be acted upon to optimize the production process and monitor pollutants.
